Working in health care is challenging and burnout is common. How do we create practices that help our work be more joyful, compassionate and sustainable?

In this four-session on-line workshop series, author Farzana Doctor will present practical ideas on 

• Listening and holding space in a way that’s good for the provider and patient 

• Understanding boundaries, why they can feel difficult and techniques to make them simpler to navigate 

• Understanding systemic and personal factors related to burnout and compassion fatigue (and why so many of us have trouble with self-care and asking for help) 

• Quick and simple self and community care strategies that are easy to build into a busy workday 

 Each session will include information sharing, a brief reflective writing exercise and discussion. All experiential exercises are optional and there is no requirement to share writing. Participants may choose to have their cameras on and off.

Farzana Doctor is a Tkaronto-based author, activist and psychotherapist. Since 1993, Farzana has worked as a social worker at community based agencies, a mental health hospital and in private practice. She provides clinical consultation to other service providers also teaches and writes on themes of equity, gender-based violence and burnout. She has written five critically acclaimed novels and a poetry collection. Her workbook for activists and helpers, 52 Weeks To A Sweeter Life, was released this past year.
